WRANGELL-ST. ELIAS NATIONAL PARK

Float down the big rivers of America’s largest national park to experience the beauty of Alaska wilderness

A family having fun while rafting on the Kennicott River

DAY TRIPS

Starting in the town of McCarthy, you will float down the massive Kennicott River while taking in the beautiful scenery of true Alaska wilderness. The day ends perfectly with a backcountry pick-up in a bushplane with a gorgeous flightsee back to town in time for dinner.

Start in McCarthy

After meeting with your guides in McCarthy you will be outfitted with safety gear, waterproof drybags to store your clothing and instructions for the day.

Then you will launch the boats just downstream of the Foot Bridge on the Kennicott River.

Beautiful Scenery

As you float away from town you will very quickly be in the remote wilderness of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Enjoy the classically beautiful Alaska landscape while floating down a big river on class II and III rapids.

Comfortable Ride

Experience the Alaska wilderness while relaxing in a big raft. There is no need to hike on a strenuous trail to see the beauty of Wrangell-St. Elias.

A Trip for Everyone

Regardless of your fitness level you can still go on an Alaskan adventure. Rafting is also a great activity for families with small children.

Short Hikes

There are opportunities to get out of the boats and stretch your legs on a short, easy hike.

Delicious Lunch

One of the best parts of a raft trip that clearly distinguishes it from hiking is the ability to carry several big coolers full of fresh food. Lunch is much more than an energy bar and a bag of trail mix. Sandwiches, fresh fruit, brownies and even chairs and a table make for a very enjoyable lunch in the middle of the Alaska wilderness.

Big Canyons

Funneling through a big canyon will suddenly make you realize how small you are. All you can do is just sit back and enjoy the ride while taking in the majesty of the Alaskan landscape.

A Full Day

The trip ends at the airstrip where you will pack up the boats and prepare for the flight back to town. It’s a great way to spend a full day enjoying the Alaska wilderness and still be back in time for dinner.

Flightsee

The trip will end with a flightsee back to McCarthy with Wrangell Mountain Air. Viewing the mountains, rivers and glaciers from the air is an exciting way to end an already fun day!

MULTI-DAY TRIPS

For a true Alaska adventure, spend several days rafting down multiple rivers in Wrangell-St. Elias. Each day you will raft part of the day and setup camp in a new location while doing day hikes and taking in the breathtaking beauty of the Alaska wilderness. And of course you will be treated to a smorgasbord of delicious food and beverages!
